AI tools label their output
Adobe Firefly, Microsoft's image generators and OpenAI image generation write Content Credentials into their output and mark the action's digitalSourceType as trainedAlgorithmicMedia (made by a trained model). On this site's result page that shows as "AI-generated: Yes".
Partly AI
If only part of a photo was changed with generative fill, the source type is usually compositeWithTrainedAlgorithmicMedia, shown as "Contains AI-generated content". If an AI image is placed into another file as an ingredient, its credentials reveal that too.
Limits
- Credentials are voluntary. AI tools that do not implement C2PA leave no mark.
- Screenshots, re-uploads to platforms that drop metadata, and recompression can strip credentials.
- Credentials only show what the signer declared. A trusted signature means the claim comes from an identifiable organization; judging whether content is credible still needs context.
Tips for creators
Keep your originals and the credentials from export; prefer platforms and tools that support C2PA; when you need to prove where your work came from, attach the report exported from this site.
